While the weather gets warmer and the likelihood of rain increases in the summer, we usually enjoy a nice breeze off the Gulf that tempers the heat.

Paddleboard Gulf StormDuring the summer months it’s not uncommon for it to rain 15 to 30 minutes somewhere in the Sarasota area in the afternoon.  The rain usually occurs between 3:00PM and 5:00PM, and in most cases, you can see the clouds rolling in from miles away – particularly when they come in across the Gulf.

The picture above shows a paddle board rider trying to stay ahead of an incoming storm.  While the clouds look pretty ominous, the rain that afternoon lasted less than 30 minutes.

The way we see it, afternoon storms are nice; they cool things down ahead of dinner, and the clouds that sometimes linger over the Gulf can make for spectacular sunsets.
